A Wish & A Prayer
As a child, I’d wish with gleeful cheer,
Santa would bring the toy I’d hold dear.
The joy it brought, pure and true,
A feeling I’d chase, forever new.
I’d tug the wishbone, make a secret plea,
An extra wish, just for me.
In class, I’d wish for recess bell,
Sunshine outside, freedom to tell.
A dinner date, though it went astray,
I’d wish to leave, without dismay.
But vacations brought a different thrill,
Wishing they’d never end or be still.
As I grow older, I wish to roam,
Retaining independence, my heart’s home.
And then, wishes turn to prayer,
Seeking guidance, beyond luck’s air.
I look for divine will, a gentle guide,
A wish transformed, where faith reside.
