Who in the world came up with this crazy, challenging theme? Ha! I hope some of you had fun trying something different this week. Poetry can make you laugh.
When I told my husband my idea, he reminded me of our golfing buddy’s unique car. The guy had been a highly successful businessman, but after he retired he became a somewhat, strange, reclusive character in town — with a “dumpy” Cadillac. In honor of his grandpa, however, a young man had the antique car all cleaned up, sitting in front of the funeral home during the service. (By the way, I changed the names in this poem and exaggerated — just a little.) Ha Ha!

Carl un-covered Cousin Cecil’s clunky chartreuse Cadillac in the crowded carport after his cremation.
A Chippendale chair with curvy cabriole legs and concrete-hard chewing gum was crammed in the trunk beside a crystal chandelier.
Chocolate cookie crumbs, a can of coins, Christmas candles, colorful comics, and a crocodile’s carcass camouflaged the caramel-colored carpet.
Cardboard crinkled over the collapsing cushions greeted crushed cans of Coors cascading from a cramped compartment.
Clumps of chewing tobacco dripped off the CD player concealing Channel 105 and a cache of Chipotle coupons.
A cobra coiled around a carton of Camel cigarettes gloating at Carl, daring him to continue on.
Carved in a column near Cousin’s Cecil’s grave several days later:
C. C. C.
Curious. Carl. Croaked.
