If you have your own Substack page, you get emails from Substack about new features and developing ideas as well as basic useful information. It’s a great platform that seeks to keep their page owners updated and engaged. This week one of their posts included this bit about posts verses notes. Many of you have figured this out by now, but for newer members, here’s a little explanation about the difference. Also, FYI, when you “restack” someone’s article, it posts that link to Notes. You can help your friends and favorite contributors by restacking their posts with the Restack icon above their posts. However, for our purposes here, please don’t restack anyone’s contribution without asking first. Some prefer to keep their posts within this community. Thanks, and happy posting!
Chatbot question of the week: What’s the difference between a note and a post?
Notes and posts on Substack serve different purposes and have distinct characteristics. Both formats are integral to engaging with your audience and can be used in complementary ways depending on your communication goals.
Notes:
Short-form writing similar to microblogging
Ideal for quick updates and sharing quotes, images, multimedia, and memes or engaging in conversations
Appear in your subscribers’ feed but do not trigger an email notification
Can be used to recommend other posts or to tag and reply to other writers
Posts:
Typically longer and more in-depth articles
Sent directly to subscribers by email and appear on your Substack publication
Used for detailed analysis, stories, or comprehensive updates
Thank you Cathey. Can you recommend a simple way to get to the dashboard view of Tuesday Creations and our personal substack page. I find sometimes that dashboard view comes up and other time I have to go to and older tab in my browser to find it through a recent post. I don't know a simple way to go from regular view to dashboard view on my phone.
Thanks for the information Cathey!
