SWEET SURRENDER
When tasked with this week’s theme, I had so many ideas running through my head. I was listening to music on my TV and a song by John Denver came on called “Sweet Surrender.” As I listened to the lyrics, it sounded much like the words I had jotted down in my journal. That is how I came up with the name. I hope you like it.
Lost and alone at the crossroads, empty echos fill the air, the horizon a blur, where to turn, silence answers only with shadows. A path once painted bright, now is a colorless abyss, the wind blows, nothing is heard, echos of footsteps, fades into memories. Trees stand as sentinels, branches twisted, like my thoughts weaving dreams of clarity, yet a weight pulls me down, familiar faces drift like mist. Time stretches like dim light, each second a lingering sigh, I search for direction, but find only vast stillness, an open book, with pages blank. In the distance, shadows turn to shapes, longing for a friendly hand, the warmth of belonging, while I stand, alone at the crossroads, waiting for a silent friend. In a still soft voice, you are not alone, whispered on the wind, finding the courage to stand, at the crossroads alone, yet not being lonely. Written by Mia Ball 3/24/2026 Photo by Mia Ball
