Through The Years
Yearnings

As a little child dreaming of bigger things There was fame, fortune and much glamour My small world expansion to a new princess me Glitz and fame, fortune and friends galore In my teenage mind a vision of a grown up person Different from the person I woke up to each day Tougher, stronger, impervious to others’ words Pushing those who shunned further and further away In my young adult mind there came a thought As children of my own dreamed of big and bold My mind wondered where the glory really lies As the years fly by and my body grows old Now in my experienced, mature mind came a truth Circumstances change as time moves forward The heart of the child that was before still is now A soul loving self and embracing life’s rewards Moments long forgotten, memories of joy and sorrow Through years of change, of growing and learning From princess to elder, authentically me as no other Same heart, kindness, a love of simple quiet yearnings
