I wrote this poem while standing over Sheep River Falls in the Sheep River Provincial Park in Alberta last week. It’s always so renewing and inspiring to pause in a place that is so beautiful it’s hard to even describe in a way that captures and honors it. As I took it in, I was reminded that we never see the same water twice and that we never get to live the same moment twice. It’s worthwhile to pause and take the time to appreciate both.
River rolling, racing, rushing over rocks;
time like rapids never seen again.
So much life lived like an undammed stream;
witness the churning of days slipping away.
Power of nature and ticking of moments
cannot be stopped or even slowed.
Lungs fill with clear, blue mountain air,
released with all waste, worry and woes.
Acceptance comes with appreciation
for presence of this exact time and space.
Days, minutes, seconds matter in the grander plan.
Hold this encounter like a fragile antiquity;
it cannot be repaired, restored, replaced.
Awaken. Absorb the significance of life’s cadence.
Abundance flows like a channel leading to the sea.
Appreciation. I love that thought. So often we lose that in our day to day sameness. Your words are a great reminder of appreciation for the moments of life. Enjoy your week Cathey and thank you! ❤️🤗
This brought back memories for me, Cathey because sheep River was one of those places that I was able to walk down the trail and stand right there overlooking that river and it was awesome so thank you for sharing the photo and the poem.
